About This Site

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Compassionate

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon our prophet
and messenger, Sayyiduna Muhammad

This website is dedicated to our teacher, Shaykh Muhammad Ahmed al-Mahi, who was a perfect example of the teaching of the Prophet of Islam, Sayyiduna Muhammad (blessings and peace be upon him). God willing, seekers of the Truth through the path of moral and spiritual development will find it of benefit.

The potential for spiritual experience and development differ from individual to individual and from path to path. We believe that Islam is richer than all other religions in its refined traditions and  documentation of man's journey to God. In Islam, the three fundamental levels of development are defined as Islam (submission), Iman (faith), and Ihsan (awareness of presence). These fundamentals are not only hierarchical stages rising from Islam to Iman to Ihsan, but are also human functions that must coexist within the individual, whatever his or her relationship is with Allah, the All-merciful, the Guide.

The spiritual path is a science, and just as in any science, following correct procedures becomes increasingly important as one progresses towards the ultimate goal of perfection. Procedure on the spiritual path is grounded in spiritual courtesy or adab. The most effective formalized social structure for learning the adab of Islam, Iman and Ihsan is through the relationships that center around an authentic authorized teacher. The perfect example of adab is the courtesy practiced between the Prophet and his companions. A record of their exemplary behavior and illuminated courtesy was faithfully captured during the time of the Prophet and rigorously preserved by the succeeding Islamic scholars until the present day.

In each person's unique spiritual journey certain fundamentals are universal. For example, the acquisition of good character and good manners necessarily precedes the attainment of knowledge. This is consistent with the concept that knowledge is for the benefit of the people and without good character and manners it can be abused. In other words, without an authentic authorized teacher who is the living example and embodiment of perfected adab, the highest levels of Islamic understanding (i.e., in the sciences of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan) will not be grasped.

Who, then, is an authentic authorized teacher? First, he is a scholar of the Qur'an (the Holy Book), the Sunnah (the authentic traditions of the Prophet), and the Shari'ah (the Law of the Muslims). Second, his authority to teach others has been given to him by his teacher, who likewise was authorized before him. Therefore, the shaykh (teacher) must have an authorization to teach from an unbroken chain of authorized shaykhs reaching back to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

This system of learning is known as the Way or Tariqa. Respect for the truth, discipline in striving, and eventually an overflowing love for Allah and His messenger are essential universal elements acquired on the Way. The student must understand that his heart and not only his mind must be enhanced by the teacher.

The principle aim of this website is to offer the visitor essential materials related to the seeking of higher truth. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us. Please enjoy and contemplate.
